Prayer needed for Emma

Emma woke up yesterday morning and the entire right side of her face was swollen. We looked in her mouth and one of her molars is coming in and it looks huge! We gave her some Tylenol and gave it another day. Well, this morning she woke up and she could barely speak so we took her to a dentist that a missionary friend recommended.  She was terrified. In Puebla, two of her permanent teeth had come in before the baby teeth even became loose so he had to pull three of her baby teeth.

The assistant today was just trying to look at her teeth with a mirror and Emma was in a complete anxiety attack....God bless her little heart. The dentist came in, he showed her that he was putting all of the tools away and he just began to talk to Greg and I. The entire time he was talking to us, he was rubbing Emmie's forehead and brushing her cheeks with his hand and just loving on her, showing her that he was not someone to be afraid of. Of course, that didn't work because she was completely terrified but guess who it DID work on ......Lottie! The biggest scaredy cat of all times climbed up in the chair to demonstrate to Emma what it was like, they looked at her teeth and took several x-rays. Unbelievable! Little stinker:)  Emma did end up getting her x-rays done but not without gagging and sobbing. Oh I feel so bad for her, things like this are so traumatic for sweet Emma. After Emma was through with her x-rays, she had little tears running down her cheeks and Lottie went over to her and hugged her and kissed her, the nurses that were standing there said it was obvious how much Lottie and Emma loved each other.  They really are such a testimony of love:)

So, the dentist needs to do much work in her mouth. She has a horrible abscessed tooth and some cavities and seven teeth need to be pulled. She has four more permanent teeth that are coming in and the seven baby teeth need to be pulled.  (I tell ya, my two girls have had so much dental work already in their short little lives!) He does not want to traumatize her anymore so he will be using anesthesia. I would normally have some hesitation with this and I was praying while Dr. Polo was talking with us and the Lord was just comforting me and I felt as if He just covered me in a warm blanket of peace.  He is really unlike any other doctor/dentist we have seen here and has such an amazing staff. They spent three hours with us today and they just worked us in at the last minute, there were patients everywhere. He never made us feel rushed and he said that both girls need some work but he does not want to do anything invasive that would cause them anxiety or trauma. Also, two of his staff spent over 45 minutes with the girls showing them how to brush and floss properly using puppets. They were so great:) When Greg was paying for the visit, the girls and I were outside in the hallway and the dentist came out and was on his way to lunch. He bent down in front of Emma and told her that he would take good care of her and for her not to be afraid, he asked her if he could have a hug.....and she hugged him:) Gotta love that girl's heart!

Emma will be put under in the OR by an anesthesiologist on Saturday morning at 8:00am so your prayers would be cherished! We haven't told her yet about the seven teeth that are being pulled because that was her greatest fear, we are letting her "deal" with the things that happened today and then we will begin to prepare her heart tomorrow:)

Oh, Kim! I'm so sorry that Emma has to go through this. But, I'm so very grateful that she has such a wonderful dentist! I had some major dental issues as a child, but not such a wonderful dentist...I'm sure that it will make a world of difference to have such a kind dentist.

Prayers for Emma and Momma too! Hugs, Leslie

P.S. S had dental work done last October under anesthesia and I am so glad we had to do that (wasn't an option for her with her heart issues). But anyway, she bounced back so quickly.

P.S.S. Does Emma have sleep issues? Our S had major ones and the dentist explained to us he was not at all surprised b/c she had many exposed nerve endings and the teeth affected sleep commonly when people are in so much pain. :((( We didn't realize how bad they had gotten. Now her sleep is in fact a lot better!
