(hee hee) Sounds serious doesn't it? It's not:) We went to the doctor with my lab results today. I made Greg come with me because I knew I wouldn't remember everything he said to me. He has ruled out any serious infections. My thyroid is great, my blood counts are good, liver is great and my hormone levels are good. My cholesterol levels were not so good and now I am taking medicine......must be all of those tortillas, tacos and tamales! What the tests did show was that I have an auto immune disease but he doesn't know which one because there are many and my main symptom is extreme fatigue and that is not enough information to narrow it down.
"An autoimmune disease is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue. Normally, the immune system's white blood cells help protect the body from harmful substances, called antigens. Examples of antigens include bacteria, viruses, toxins, cancer cells, and blood or tissues from another person or species. The immune system produces antibodies that destroy these harmful substances. In patients with an autoimmune disorder, the immune system can't tell the difference between healthy body tissue and antigens. The result is an immune response that destroys normal body tissues. What causes the immune system to no longer tell the difference between healthy body tissues and antigens is unknown. "
So in my tests it showed that I had an abnormal amount of antinuclear antibodies and that is not good.
"Antibodies are proteins that are made as part of an immune response. Normally the immune system responds to infection by producing large numbers of antibodies to fight bacteria or viruses. However, when a person has an autoimmune disease, the body's immune system malfunctions, producing large amounts of harmful substances called autoantibodies. Autoantibodies, unlike normal antibodies that fight bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi, attack the body's own tissues and cells. Autoantibody-mediated inflammation and cell destruction can affect blood cells, skin, joints, kidneys, lungs, nervous system, and other organs of the body."
So, there you have it! That is our medical lesson for the day:) He has ordered further testing so we will go back to the hospital in the morning for more blood work. He is also testing me for tuberculosis because he said there is a large increase of TB here in Mexico now and since we work with poor people he wanted to test me just to be safe. I don't go back until November 22nd but if he sees something on the lab results when they come back, he will call us and tell us over the phone. The bottom line is that I do have something but it is treatable and I am ready to begin getting treatment which doesn't sound like I will begin until we get back from Texas in January. I was wanting to begin treatment before we left, I will just keep praying.
The girls are excited to be going back to the hospital tomorrow so they can have another banana nut muffin from Starbucks:)

You gotta love life before it gets clouded with antinuclear antibodies and autoimmune diseases^^
Oh...I've been waiting for this post.
I am sorry they still haven't narrowed it down completely...but am glad that whatever it is, is treatable. :) That's great news.
You know you are always in my prayers!
:)
I've been waiting to hear some news. I'm glad that you have some information and that whatever it is, it can be treated. I will keep praying that it is not too serious.
Love to you,
Sarah
praying that the Great Physician will heal you completely and carry you through this time.
Boy, Kim, I am so sorry that you have been going through all this...It is great that they have found something that is causing the symptoms so you can get some help...I hate that you have to deal with it though....praying for you...you are so cute how you approach all things!! And you will look STUNNING in GOLD!!!!! AND...how amazing that a daughter wants her mother to be a bridesmaid...that is SUCH a tribute...(tell me how in the world you did it!! haha)
You know that my prayers will continue without ceasing. I pray that God's healing hands cover you with His precious blood and that each and every one of those further tests come back negative.

Hugs,
Ohilda
Hi Kim... :) Thank you for your sweet comments. I am glad you didn't think they were coming through, because now I have 3 sweet words from you. :)
I just wanted to let you know that I e-mailed you a few times. I know sometimes my e-mail ends up in spam...
I don't need a response back....especially if you're busy. :) I just didn't want you not to get them at all, and think I wasn't responding to you!!!
Love,
Mer

Colleen
Keeping you in my prayers! I'm so thankful you have a hospital that makes your children feel special. A small blessing during an uneasy time. Love and hugs from St. Louis....
I am so thankful for doctors and tests and TREATMENTS! Praise the Lord you have a starting place! Praying you healthy and back to yourself soon!
Oh Kim I have not stopped praying and will continue to pray for your stamina and energy and complete HEALING, among many other prayers for your entire family!
WE LOVE YALL
Kim, I was just thinking of you again and praying that your treatments will help return some of your energy, so that you can soak in and enjoy every moment while you are back in the states. It is not fun to be so drained and tired all the time. Glad you have some answers and a starting point for treatment. Keeping close in thoughts and prayers in the months ahead, that they will be able to narrow down exactly what auto-immune sickness you have, and that it is nothing serious.
I totally giggled at the honest innocence of your girls reasoning for looking forward to returning to the hospital... I think they have found their way to "stop and smell the roses"!! :)
Looking forward to your posts from the states and can't wait to see those wedding photos... what a treasured time and a great way to spend the holidays with your family. God is good!! <><
OXO,
Tanya
